Imageless Space is honored to launch the photo exhibition of Japanese photographer Koji Onaka – the Slow Boat. During the exhibition, 45 masterpieces of the Slow Boat series, which are the most representative works of Koji Onaka, will be presented.
The series of Slow Boat, which were the records of Koji Onaka’s travel around Japan , were taken by Koji Onaka from 1983 to 1999. This period was the crucial turning point in the art career of Koji Onaka. After that, the focus of Koji Onaka turned to color photography. As for this photographic experience, Koji Onaka has his own poetic expression that he wishes his life and photography to be as leisurely and carefree as a small boat.
The 45 black-and-white photographs in this exhibition are all hand made by Koji Onaka himself and embodies the unique understanding of black and white photography, also including the gelatin-silver process and his brilliant dark room technique. It is the second cooperation for Imagelesss with Mr. Koji Onaka, since he authorized Imageless to publish the third edition of the monograph Slow Boat.
Imageless Studio is located in Wuxi China, devoted to Photography and Independent publication. This time we held the solo exhibition for Koji Onaka, that shows we are enhancing international artistic energy, and promoting contribution of international art communication.
About Koji Onaka
Koji Onaka, born in Fukuoka in 1960, has been apprentice to Daido Moriyama, and as a member of Camp gallery, which was founded by Daido Moriyama. He held the Kaido gallery now. Both of his B&W work and color work have been recognized and appreciated all over the world. So far, he has published over 20 photographic books, and the Slow Boat is his fifth monograph, which was republished twice.
